Punjab Kings put to bat first, lost their 1st wicket in the first over itself in the form of Mayank Agarwal. Skipper KL Rahul was a bit unlucky to get run out in the 3rd over through a brilliant piece of work by Ravindra Jadeja in the field. Sixer-king Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran both were dismissed in the 5th over of Deepak Chahar. Punjab Kings were 26/5 in 6.2 overs when Shahrukh Khan played a brilliant 47-run knock in 36 balls to get some valuable runs for his team. No other player supported Shahrukh from the other side as wickets kept on falling from the other side. Punjab Kings ended up scoring just 106 runs in 20 overs.
Deepak Chahar was on fire as he took 4 wickets in his 4-over spell in which he also bowled a maiden. Chahar was fabulous with the ball bowling with an economy rate of 3.20. For this great performance, Deepak Chahar was named the Player of the Match for today's game. Chahar bowled a lot of knuckle-balls which eventually helped him to gain 4 wickets. Sam Curran, DJ Bravo, and Moeen Ali picked 1 wicket each.
CSK started their innings patiently and cautiously. In the first three overs, CSK scored just 8 runs after which Faf du Plessis smacked 2 fours and hit a fabulous scoop shot that went for a six. Ruturaj Gaikwad was the 1st wicket of CSK which fell in the 5th over. Moeen Ali was right into the action as he entered and quickly hammered two fours. Faf du Plessis produced unbeaten 36 runs off 33 balls hitting 3 fours and a six. With 4 runs remaining to score, Sam Curran finished the match in style.
Mohammad Shami was the highest wicket-taker for the Punjab Kings as he bagged 2 wickets and as a matter of fact, both the wickets came in two consecutive deliveries of the 15th over. No other bowler was able to produce an impact to make the match tough for CSK. Arshdeep Singh and Murugan Ashwin got 1 wicket each. The match could have been a thriller if Punjab Kings' bowlers had taken few early wickets.
This was the 200th match for MS Dhoni representing Chennai Super Kings. MSD has represented CSK in 176 matches of IPL and he has played 24 matches in Champions League in the same yellow jersey.
