DC's Axar Patel is the second player after KKR's Nitish Rana to test positive for Covid-19. Eight groundsmen of Wankhede Stadium have also been tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the 14th edition of IPL.

Delhi Capitals all-rounder Axar Patel has been tested positive for Covid-19 six days before the start of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League 2021. Also, 8 members of the ground staff at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai have been tested positive for Covid-19. Delhi Capitals has to play its first match of the season, against the Chennai Super Kings on 10th April 2021 in Mumbai.
"Axar had checked into the team hotel in Mumbai on 28th March 2021, with a negative report. His report from the 2nd COVID test came positive. He is currently in isolation at a designated medical care facility. The Delhi Capitals medical team is in constant touch with Axar ensuring his safety and well-being. We wish him a speedy recovery," said a Delhi Capitals statement.
Axar Patel is the 2nd player after Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Nitish Rana to test positive for the virus. Nitish Rana has been tested negative for COVID-19 on Thursday after a positive result of Covid-19 came on 22nd March 2021.
Previously, Axar joined Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2019. Since then, he has been a part of the team, playing 14 matches in the year 2019 and 15 matches in the year 2020.
Also, India is the 5th country that is highly affected by Covid in the world and at the present moment Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu are the three highly Covid affected states in India. These three states are the part of the venues where IPL matches are to be played.
