After winning the toss, RCB elected to bat first. Well, things didn't go in favour of RCB in the first five overs as they lost skipper Virat Kohli and the new man Rajat Patidar in the 2nd over itself. These two wickets put RCB on the back foot and at the end of 5 overs, the score read 28/2. With the efforts of Devdutt Padikkal and Glenn Maxwell, RCB recovered in the 6th over, taking the score to 45/2. Glenn Maxwell was unstoppable as he brought up his 2nd consecutive fifty and that also in just 28 balls. Devdutt Padikkal was caught out in the 12th over scoring 25 runs off 28 balls. AB de Villiers, the next man in, soon joined the party with Glenn Maxwell and the duo scored runs everywhere in the field. Glenn Maxwell after an explosive inning of 78 runs in just 49 deliveries went back in the 17th over off Pat Cummins. Though Maxwell departed the power-packed show continued as ABD along with Kyle Jamieson added 56 runs in the last 3 overs. AB de Villiers showed brilliancy in his batting scoring unbeaten 76 runs in just 34 balls. ABD brought up his fifty in just 27 balls which is the 2nd fastest half-century of IPL 2021 as of now.
Kolkata Knight Riders had a hard time while bowling to AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell. Varun Chakravarthy bagged 2 wickets while Pat Cummins and Prasidh Krishna got 1 wicket each.
Chasing a massive score of 205 runs, KKR required a fierce start from the top-order batsmen. Shubman Gill smacked two sixes and a four to Kyle Jamieson but was dismissed in the same over scoring 18 runs. Rahul Tripathi came with the intention to attack from ball one and hammered 4 boundaries but he also didn't stay for long as Washington Sundar got him caught near square-leg at the end of the powerplay. Wickets kept on falling for KKR at regular intervals as no batsman was able to stay for long. Skipper Eoin Morgan and Shakib Al Hasan tried to boost the score as they built a steady partnership. Eoin Morgan was dismissed in the 14th over off Harshal Patel as KKR crumbled chasing. Andre Russell scored 20 runs in the over of Yuzvendra Chahal trying to come back in the game but KKR was too far from its destiny. KKR required 44 runs in 12 balls as Mohammad Siraj was superb with the ball as he gave just 1 run the 19th over and restricted Andre Russell. Harshal Patel dismissed Andre Russell in the last over of the match. Andre Russell scored 31 runs off 20 balls.
Kyle Jamieson was a bit expensive but he bagged 3 important wickets for RCB. Yuzvendra Chahal opened his account bagging 2 wickets in the match. Harshal Patel also got 2 wickets in his 4-over spell. Washington Sundar also picked 1 wicket of Rahul Tripathi.
This was the 13th win of RCB against KKR in IPL. With this win, RCB has completed the hat-trick of wins without losing any match in IPL 2021.
