Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman came up with a great batting display at Johannesburg on Sunday but it was not enough in the chase of 342 runs against South Africa in the 2nd ODI of a 3-match series. Temba Bavuma won his 1st match as South Africa's ODI captain as the hosts leveled the series at 1-1.
Fakhar Zaman played a great knock of 193 runs facing 155 balls which is the highest score by any batsman batting second in ODI cricket. Fakhar Zaman, who had become the 1st Pakistan cricketer to hit an ODI double hundred, missed an opportunity here to score a double ton as he was run out at 193-run. Fakhar Zaman hit 10 sixes and 18 fours in his fabulous innings to keep Pakistan in the chase.
Now, It is being said that Quinton de Kock deliberately tried to distract Fakhar Zaman, who was run out by a direct hit while he was trying to complete his second run in the final over.
Fakhar Zaman was run-out for 193-run in the very first ball of the final over. Zaman hit the ball towards the cover boundary and was trying to complete his second run but got run out by a direct hit from Aiden Markram. Here, Zaman was comfortably positioned to complete the second run but he misjudged the throw and was eventually out.
No other Pakistan batsmen other than Fakhar Zaman played brilliantly to help Pakistan win the match as the 2nd-highest score during the chase was 31 runs scored by Pakistan's skipper Babar Azam. Five Pakistan batsmen got out for single-digit scores while eight of them didn't even cross the 20-run mark in a huge chase of 342 runs.
Anrich Nortje, the South African pace bowler, was in great form as he destroyed the Pakistan batting unit by getting the wicket of captain Babar Azam and WK-Batsman Mohammed Rizwan in the same over. Anrich Nortje grabbed 3 wickets while Andile Phehlukwayo took 2 wickets. Kagiso Rabada was on top of his game as he conceded just 43 runs bowling 10 overs.
Earlier in the day, South Africa came up with a spirited and balanced batting effort with captain Temba Bavuma scoring 92 runs to provide a base for other batsmen. Quinton de Kock hit 80 runs while Rassie van der Dussen scored a quick 60-run off 37 balls. David Miller's unbeaten 50 runs off 27 deliveries also helped Proteas to score a competitive total of more than 300 runs.
