This is a short biography about Ronaldo's life and career so far. There are many more things that could be mentioned here, and this is only a glimpse of his story.

He was born in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal on 5 February 1985 to Santino and Dolores Aveiro, who were both professional footballers. His mother played for the Portugal women's national team while his father played for the semi-professional Madeira-based club, São Vicente. His parents named him after American actor Ronald Reagan because they were fans of the Gipper portrayed in a TV movie they had watched before Ronaldo was born and discovered that it was Ronald’s given name in his early years. This nickname was later changed to “Ronaldo” due to the fact that the young player kept calling himself Ronald.

He spent his first four years with Rio Ave FC, but at the age of seven, he was transferred to Sporting. As a youngster, he played for both the youth squad and the under-16 team while rising up through the ranks. At the age of  16, he turned professional and was promoted to training with the first team after only two years as a junior.

Ronaldo was a quick learner for someone so young and excelled at football. His talent attracted many clubs and he was tempted to leave for a big transfer fee, but his mother persuaded him to stay because of his youth. His father had the opposite view, telling him that no player had succeeded at the club without leaving first. Ronaldo stayed and became an important part of the team while gaining fame through winning three consecutive under-18 championships.

His breakthrough into the first team came in 2002 when he played several games and scored goals, particularly in a match against Leiria where he scored twice. This performance gained much media attention and people were eager to see more of this hot prospect from Madeira.

He is the most expensive football player when he was transferred from Manchester United to Real Madrid in 2009. He has a lot of records and won many titles and awards.

He played for the Portugal football team since 1998. He has been playing as the captain of the Portugal national team since 2008, with 50 matches and scoring 48 goals, with the highest number of hat-tricks: 6.

He has won all the titles in his club Real Madrid: La Liga-2011, Supercopa de España-2011 (3), Copa del Rey-2011, UEFA Champions League-2013, Spanish Super Cup-2012 and 2014.

He has many individual awards such as FIFA Ballon D'or (best player of the year)-2008, UEFA Team of the Year Award 2008, FIFA World Player of the Year Award-2008, Golden Boot Award 2008 and 2014, Trofeo Alfredo Di Stéfano award 2009, etc. He also won individual awards for his country Portugal: Best Player of Europe in 2001 and 2002 at UEFA European Under-18 Football Championship. Not only he won awards, but his single goal against Sweden in the 2014 World Cup was also the 1st time a Portuguese football player scored at the FIFA World Cup.

In August 2013 Real Madrid made a record-breaking transfer fee for Ronaldo worth £80 million, it made him the most expensive footballer of all time. In 2017 before Ronaldo's departure for Juventus, he became the first player to ever reach 100 UEFA Champions League goals with Ronaldo netting 105 goals throughout his career in UEFA's elite club competition.
