Gareth Bale was born in Cardiff, Wales, to parents Frank, who runs a school, and Debbie Bale, a career manager. He is the nephew of former Cardiff City football player Chris Pike. His schooling took place at Eglwys Newydd Primary School in Whitchurch. As a 14-year-old he claims to have run a 100-meter race in 11.4 seconds. Because of his superior football skills, the school's PE teacher, Gwyn Morris, had to write special rules that prevented Bale from playing one-touch ball and not using his left foot.
Although he was only 16 at the time, he helped the under-18 school team win the Cardiff & Vale Senior Cup. He dropped out of school in the summer of 2005 with a Grade A in PE among other GCSE results. In her final year of school, she was awarded the PE departmental award for sports activities.
