Batting first, the CSK start didn't go very well as they lost both their openers at a score of 7 runs. CSK came back in the game with the efforts of middle-order as Suresh Raina and Moeen Ali added an unhesitating 53 runs hitting 6 sixes together. Most of the runs came in the over of R Ashwin. Ashwin bowling his full quota of overs gave 47 runs and took the wicket of Moeen Ali. In the end, Sam Curran hit some superb sixes and boundaries which gave CSK a great finish. Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran took CSK to a respectable and competitive total on this batting-friendly track.
For CSK, Suresh Raina scored 54 runs off 36 balls, while Moeen Ali hammered 36 runs off just 24 balls. Sam Curran's quickfire 34 runs came in just 15 balls and Ravindra Jadeja scored 26 runs off 17 balls. MSD didn't score any run and was out on a duck.
Chris Woakes bowled brilliantly to bag 2 wickets giving just 18 runs. Other than him Avesh Khan also took 2 wickets.
Delhi Capitals never looked worried chasing 189 runs in 20 overs. A fabulous partnership between Shikhar Dhawan and youngster Prithvi Shaw of 138 runs made it such easy for DC that they chased 189 runs with 8 balls remaining. Prithvi Shaw in his good form from the domestic cricket scored 72 runs in just 38 deliveries hitting the balls all over the ground. He was very well supported by his opening partner and a senior player Shikhar Dhawan who added 85 runs facing just 54 deliveries. Both of them hammered 65 runs in the powerplay and stitched a great partnership which led DC to win the 2nd match.
Shardul Thakur took 2 wickets but conceded 53 runs in 3.4 overs. Dwayne Bravo also took a wicket. None of the CSK bowlers dominated with their bowling attack in the game as the DC openers hit the balls everywhere in the ground. Skipper MS Dhoni mentioned the due factor playing a part in the game and also the wicket becoming more favourable for batting in the 2nd innings. Deepak Chahar and Sam Curran bowled some overpitched deliveries early on which gave DC an advantage to scoring runs faster in the powerplay itself.
Prithvi Shaw had scored just 49 runs in the last 8 matches of IPL 2020, while he hammered 72 runs in the 1st match of IPL 2021.
